What a lovely afternoon! We enjoyed a tea party in aid of Children in Need on Friday 18th November with the residents, staff and friends & family of Valerie Manor and I am delighted to say that we raised over £250.00. The residents enjoyed getting the Manor ready with Pudsey decorations and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon tea party which again brought the old and young together – all of course enjoying the fantastic cakes, chocolates and cookies baked by Chris our wonderful chef. Thank you to everyone for their support and to staff for their hard work in helping raise money again this year for this worthy charity.

We had a fantastic day last week at Valerie Manor's 'Blooming Great Tea Party'. We were so lucky with the weather and had a great turn out. I am absolutely delighted to say that we have so far raised over £600 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

This is the most that Valerie Manor has ever raised for charity so I am absolutely thrilled – there's still time to raise more though and if you were unable to attend you are still able to donate online, or send a cheque to us for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

I have to say a huge thank you to all the staff who assisted us on the day and made it so special for the residents and our guests.

A special thank you to Chris, our chef who made all the cakes and scones for everyone to enjoy during the day and take home with them. Another special thank you to Sarah Watson Saunders, one of our resident’s daughters who donated her time for the afternoon for face painting by ‘True Colours’ – this attracted a lot of interest with the children and adults alike.........yes, I had to have the Valerie Manor ‘V’ on my face as well!

For those who did not see the cake, a picture is above; Truffles in Steyning kindly donated the cake for our ‘guess the weight’ competition. It was made by one of our carers mums – Spectacular!

I also have several thank-you’s for relatives who donated raffle prizes and local business’s who were so generous with their gifts for the raffle. Thank you so much to all who donated;

The staff and residents at Valerie Manor are at it again! We are having a 'Blooming Great' tea party in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care on the afternoon of Friday 26th August from 3pm to 6pm. There will be lots of fun including a raffle, Face Painting by True Colours, a Tea Teaser Quiz, and a wide selection of delicious homemade refreshments for sale.

All the money raised from the tea party will help Marie Curie Nurses to provide more free care to patients with terminal illnesses in the comfort of their own homes or one of the charity’s hospices.

The tea party is part of many others that have been taking place across the country as part of Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Blooming Great Tea Party campaign, which hopes to raise one million pounds for the charity this summer.

We are also taking donations online and would welcome any amount you can give at; http://www.justgiving.com/valeriemanor-teaparty.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Valerie Manor Children in Need day again this year.

The day started off with Emma and myself decorating the car park with Children in Need banners, balloons and bunting.... of course whilst wearing bandanas, tee-shirts and Pudsey ears!

I was thrilled when the contractors, Hilife’s site manager Dan supported the day by taking donations from the labourers in exchange for bacon butties!!

In the morning the residents enjoyed making the paper chain again which ended up quite long this year – watch out for the pictures in the Herald. The afternoon was filled with support from our local community and relatives and friends of Valerie Manor who joined us for Pudsey afternoon tea – filled with Pudsey biscuits and cakes!

I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far and encourage you to still support the event as the online donation page still remains open. To date we have managed to raise over £350, nearly to our target of £400. You can donate online on our JustGiving page.

I would like to say thank you to Robin (my mum) for organising and planning the event with the residents and staff. Unfortunately she could not attend as her dance school were busy tap dancing for Children in Need all day and managed to raise a staggering £1500.00! Well done mum!

Last year the residents and staff at Valerie Manor raised over £400 for BBC Children in Need. This year we’re at it again and this time around the resident’s are keen to revisit a previous fundraising activity with the Valerie Manor Paper Chain Marathon – this year they’ll be working hard to beat their previous record of almost 50 metres in length!

We’d love it if you could give some encouragement by making a small donation...

View Article  Go Green Day for St Barnabas - 17th June 2010

As many of you may be aware we have been planning our Go Green Day for St Barnabas for several weeks now. We were approached by the Herald to ask if we would like to have a charity day to raise money for St Barnabas. We all agreed that it would be a lovely idea as it is such a good cause and St Barnabas staff have supported several residents, families and staff at Valerie Manor through difficult times.

The residents along with Robin and staff started to come up with ideas for how we could raise money on our Go Green Day. The residents wanted to make some fresh flower arrangements which Joyce kindly arranged for the morning bringing in lots of greenery from her garden at home. They all looked lovely around the home for the day. The lounge was decorated with St Barnabas banners, balloons and bugs along with green helium balloons, glitter curtains and serviettes. We had green tea and cake or a green punch with friends and families of Valerie Manor and were selling green cup cakes for people to take away with them. Thank you to Maria who had been up since 4am baking for everyone. We also had a green raffle which staff and local people kindly donated to. Not of course forgetting that the wonderful staff at Valerie Manor joined in with the spirit of the day by wearing green outfits with green nail varnish, face paints and glitter wigs! Of course the residents were all in green clothes and hats for the day and the majority of visitors also turned up wearing green.

I am thrilled to say that we raised over £300 for St Barnabas and they have now also reached their set goal which is fantastic.

Thank you to all the residents, staff, friends and relatives and my family for supporting the event and raising money for such a good cause. Also a big thank you to everyone who donated gifts, including Nursing Hygiene, Staff members, and Mike from Upper Beeding Pharmacy. Watch out for the picture in the newspaper (Herald) next week!

You can view more pictures from the day on our Picasa web album below...

The residents and staff are at it again! As you may know, we like to keep busy at Valerie Manor and if we can combine it with raising money for a good cause then even better!

We would like to invite you to a Go Green for St Barnabas tea party on Thursday 17th June 2010 at 16:00. We will be asking visitors to make a donation for their tea and ‘green’ cake and of course the pleasure of seeing the residents and staff all dressed up for the afternoon! All donations will go directly to St Barnabas, whose staff have supported several residents, families and staff at Valerie Manor through difficult times. (Please see detailed information regarding the fund raising event below)

Robin (mum) is also busy organising the lounge / diner to be decorated in green, creating a green quiz for the residents and flower arranging during the morning which the residents suggested themselves.

If you are not able to attend then please do visit our just giving website to make a donation online for this worthy cause:

Information about the fundraising project:

The Herald and Gazette have been asking people to Go Green for St Barnabas for the past two months. St. Barnabas House is a local independent charitable hospice, first opened in 1973 by a local GP Dr. Francis Gusterson. It is a non-religious organisation that offers palliative care for patients with advanced cancer and other advanced life-limiting diseases. They are hoping the appeal will raise £5,000 which St Barnabas will put towards the cost of their new hospice, currently being built in Titnore Lane, so far they have raised just under £3,000.

We have taken on the challenge and the residents, staff and Robin, our activities coordinator, have been coming up with ideas to help raise money towards this worthy cause.

We're very lucky at Valerie Manor to have Lola, a beautiful black labrador, and volunteer owner Derrie come to visit us from Pets As Therapy. They visited for the first time on 26th November and have asked if they could come back every week to spend more time with the residents. The residents love their company and not only enjoy stroking Lola and having the comfort of her being so close it also generates a lot of conversation and memories for them all. Several residents had memories and stories to tell about dogs that they have owned in the past or have known throughout their lives which was so lovely to hear about.

Thank you to Derrie and Lola and we look forward to seeing a lot more of you both at the Manor.

Pets As Therapy is a national charity and is unique in that it provides temperament assessed/vaccinated PAT Dogs and PAT Cats with registered volunteers to hospitals, hospices, residential care homes, day centres, special needs schools and many other establishments, providing comfort, companionship and therapy. Whilst Zoe and our lovely ladies and gentlemen at Valerie Manor were busy enjoying themselves with various activities to raise money for Pudsey Bear, Sally-Ann and I were also having a great time running two Sponsored Tap Dancing Sessions at Let’s Dance!

During the afternoon pupils from 3 years old donned Fancy Dress to tap away for 1 hour being sponsored by family and friends and in the evening older pupils and adults spent 2 hours doing the same. I am delighted to tell you that we were pledged £2,126.60 for the Sessions!

Sore feet, happy feet. Smiley faces!
