Hello everyone,
I thought you would like an update on some activities that we have enjoyed over the past couple of weeks. Although I put the programme together I am unable to be there every day so the lovely carers at Valerie Manor facilitate the activities when I am not around.
The activities are for fun but also have hidden benefits. We enjoyed a great time with pom poms last week shaking along to Caribbean Music and then playing some instruments along with the steel band...such rhythm!... this obviously helps with flexibility of the wrists, elbows and shoulders as well as concentrating on keeping in time with the music. I like to have a mini warm up before we start these activities which is hopefully helping with mobility.
One Activity this week was ‘Sensory Identification’ we concentrated on smell and touch this time; sight and sound are yet to come. We had several different pots of ‘smells’ e.g. mint sauce, vanilla essence, mixed spices and many more. Each person took a turn at sniffing the pots and at the end gave their opinion on what they thought it was. Everyone got at least one right. We then took it in turns to feel objects that were placed in a bag and at the end one by one they had to say which object they felt. I call these type of activities ‘Mind Benders’ as it helps us to us think and remember. That’s all for now folks! Robin
