I am delighted to announce that the Valerie Manor care team and management have been selected as finalists in the RBS Allcora Excellence in Care Awards 2008. We have been selected for two categories; Excellence in Entrepreneurial Achievement sponsored by Pinkertons – and also in the group of finalists for the overall Outstanding Contribution, sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland. I’m extremely proud of my team; being selected as finalists is an achievement in itself. The Winners and Runners Up will be announced at the awards lunch to be held at The Renaissance Hotel in Manchester on Wednesday 24th September 2008. Wish us good luck!
Commenting on the awards, Richard Hall, National Head of Healthcare, Commercial Banking at RBS says; “RBS are delighted to be celebrating the professionalism and excellence in the UK social care sector. We see amazing dedication and skill every day when visiting care homes up and down the country, so it is especially important for us to be involved in rewarding these organisations and individuals”.
“This is the second year of the RBS Allcora Excellence in Care Awards and we believe that the winners of this award will reflect the huge strides that the UK care industry has made in recent years and the determination of the industry as a whole to keep improving for the benefit of those vulnerable people in their care”.
Valerie Manor has recently become involved in a pilot project to encourage and promote a healthy workplace. The pilot is being run by Horsham District Council until January 2009 and Valerie Manor is the only care home privileged to be able to take part at this stage. As part of the project we will be looking to achieve different levels of awards by promoting and demonstrating that we have a healthy workplace. This is a great opportunity for all the staff to participate in the project and it will be high on the agenda at our next staff meeting to discuss the priorities and what staff would like to do at Valerie Manor to become healthier. Some suggestions already received are for staff to give up smoking, for the manager to provide some fruit bowls and herbal teas each week, and to participate in some activities arranged by Robin our activities coordinator.
