View Article  Meet Luke!...
Luke Redfern, a local school boy, has been helping out with the entertainment at weekends at the Manor for some time now. As well as working at Valerie Manor Luke keeps himself very busy in the community, taking part in the organisation of Steyning Live Lounge and he is also the producer in an amateur dramatics society 'Steyning Stages'!

After a very busy time for Luke in December organising a pantomime, I’m pleased to say he is back spending time with our residents again. Each weekend he can be found enjoying board games with or encouraging residents in physical activities from their chairs. They really enjoy his company and the time he spends with them. He’s lots of ideas regarding activities and we hope he’ll be getting more involved with activities planning and with our activities coordinator, Robin in the coming months.

It’s great to have you back Luke and we look forward to seeing more of you around the Manor in the future.

Zoë (Owner/Manager)

View Article  The Valerie Manor Quilt…
Well done to Joyce and all the residents at Valerie Manor for completing The Valerie Manor Quilt. After a number of months of frenzied knitting activity at the Manor, the quilt was finally finished in plenty of time for Christmas – and all that cold weather! And I must say it looks wonderful. All involved are very proud of what they’ve achieved and are keen to see it go to a good cause.

At almost 5ft x 5ft, and with over 35 squares, it makes for a very cosy and comfy warm blanket – perfect now that winter has well and truly arrived.

We’re still looking for good ideas of where to donate the quilt. If you have any suggestions or know of a good home for it please get in touch! Just email me at zoe@valeriemanor.co.uk or give me a call on (01903) 812 105 with your ideas.

Thank You!

Zoë (Owner/Manager)

View Article  Happy New Year!

A very Happy New Year everyone.

At the time of writing it’s a very pretty scene outside with the frost glistening on the trees. I’m sure our ladies and gents are nicely snug and warm in Valerie Manor. I mentioned most activities that we enjoyed in December in my previous blog entries but here are some more things we got up to...

The cheese and wine tasting went down very well as did the Pub Quiz with a tipple! Musical hats was a hoot. The ladies and gents felt a warm glow watching a Maldivian Video listening to traditional music whilst munching on Maldivian biscuits (I couldn’t make it that day but was given the beautiful tin back... empty!)

Thank you to all the relatives and professionals who joined us for pre-Christmas mulled wine and mince pies... we needed elastic walls in the lounge!

Father Christmas joined us on Christmas morning and we had great fun opening presents together... who says Christmas is for children? New Year was seen in by a couple of our ladies, the Carers and Zoe.

Mind Benders Activities so far this month have been Opposites and The Alphabet Game. Flexibility Activities have included Score a Goal and Target Bean Bag We have exercises from our chair coming up and Fred and Ginger in Top Hat!

Two themed days have clashed this month. Australia Day and Chinese New Year of the Ox both fall on 26th January so we are having the Chinese Theme on Saturday 7th February.

Activities Coordinator
