I would like to say a huge thank you to Michele Stubbs, our local trainer for
some of our mandatory training at Valerie Manor. I attended the First Aid
Provider course last weekend taught by Michele and attended by other members of
the local community. It was lovely to meet colleagues in the community and I am
pleased to say that I passed and although I have the qualification of a
qualified nurse can join the staff at Valerie Manor in being a first aid
provider as well. Thanks Michele for providing a course which was enjoyable as
well as being extremely valuable.Thursday, April 9

Hello everyone, let’s hope that the weather improves for the Easter Weekend so that the sunshine will add to the festivities we have planned here at Valerie Manor. It was lovely to see all the residents outside last week enjoying the sun – we even got the sun tan lotion out as it was so hot in the direct sunlight, let’s hope for more of that to come from tomorrow. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Easter and hope you have a lovely long weekend. Friday, April 3

![]() From the 1st April 2009 the Care Quality Commission will bring a new approach to the independent regulation of Health and Social Care, whether in the public, voluntary or private sector. Their predecessors for Social Care were the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) that I have referred to in the past and who inspected Valerie Manor in 2008. It will bring together common quality standards across health and social care and have a focus on the joining up of health and social care for the first time. Please find a link to the new website below where you can find out more information about the new regulatory body. I will of course keep you updated of any changes relevant to Valerie Manor on a regular basis. Visit the Care Quality Commission website Thursday, April 2

![]() I cannot believe its April already, my how time flies! We had a very busy March... ’if you don’t use it you lose it!’... that’s our motto. After gentle warm-ups and stretches we have been line dancing from our chairs, learning ballet and mime also from our chairs. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed using instruments to play along with some Steel Band Caribbean music. I'm really impressed with the sense of rhythm we have amongst our ladies and gentlemen. Three themed days were on the programme this month; St. David’s Day with a Welsh Quiz and Menu, St. Patrick’s Day again with a Quiz, Irish Menu and Riverdance music and DVD - the third was Greek Independence Day where Greek food was served and Greek music played. Zoe has mentioned the Red Nose Day which was great fun as well as raising funds for others less fortunate than us. Hands were busy doing cross-stitch and everyone enjoyed the Pass the Parcel. Lots to look forward to in April including Easter Celebrations, St. George’s Day and the Queen’s Birthday which we will celebrate in style! Bye for now, Happy Spring! Robin Activities Coordinator |
