View Article  Care Quality Commission (CQC) – Annual Service Review
I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff, residents and relatives who completed questionnaires for our annual inspection this year. I am thrilled to say that we have had an Annual Service Review this year (not a key inspection) due to the quality of responses from the questionnaires and our self assessment. This means that we will remain a 2 star care home for another year until we have a key inspection. I would like to thank all the staff for their continued hard work, support and dedication............We will still thrive to achieve a 3 star rating when we have a ‘Key Inspection’.

It was beneficial for us to reflect on the past year during our annual Quality Assurance on the awards that we have won / achieved and the events that we have had. I have recently placed a display board in the corridor ‘in the press’ so that the residents / staff and relatives can look back on what we have been doing over the past year. As part of the reflection process we have also purchased a digital photo frame to go along side the photo albums available to look at in the communal areas so that residents can sit with their families and remember events and activities that they have taken part in as we love to take photos at the Manor!

I would also like to thank all the staff at Steyning Health Centre, especially the District Nurses and GP’s who assist us to look after the residents on a day to day basis if required and also our local pharmacist, Michael who provides day to day support regarding any issues with medication.

As always we still welcome any comments, suggestions or recommendations that will help us to continuously improve the standards at Valerie Manor.

The Annual Service Review will be available to view on the CQC website over the next two months but if you would like to see a copy in the meantime then please do have a look on the notice board or inspection report folders at Valerie Manor where we have received a hard copy.

Thank you again to everyone for their continued support at Valerie Manor.

What a fantastic show SG Productions put on for us this week. The show was called ‘Variety Summertime Performance’ and what a show it was! The two performers (Oscar and Katherine) had so much energy and entertained the residents by singing and dancing to several songs from around the world. Of course the residents and staff joined in by singing and dancing too! They even managed to get me up to take part with them!

Activities Coordinator Robin and I always like to look out for new games when we are out and about and the most recent purchase has been an indoor Tin Can Alley, which went down so well in the lounge I heard the residents and staff enjoying themselves from upstairs! Luke was on hand to re-stack the pyramid of cans every time they went down - and the residents certainly kept him busy with their sharp-shooting! The camera was at the ready as always to capture all the action.

View Article  July Activities Summary
Hello,

Where did July go ?

Zoe and I are busy organising the Christmas entertainment....isn’t that frightening! As ever our ladies and gentleman have been busy with Physical and Mind Bending Activities. Not forgetting a couple of Theme Days and musical moments.

We celebrated both American Independence Day and Bastille Day with a wonderful decorated Dining Room for each occasion and themed food for Lunch and Supper.  An American Quiz and French Quiz were enjoyed by everyone plus music from The Andrews Sisters for July 4th and authentic French music for Bastille Day.

We enjoyed an ‘Apple’ Quiz, Song Scramble with Al Jolson, played along to Hollywood Best with our musical instruments.  A ‘virtual’ trip around Chichester Harbour was a winner as was the old TV Quiz Game...Play Your Cards Right!  Memories were re-kindled watching an episode of the comedy Bread and listening and singing along to Music Hall Memories.

Target Toss, Hoopla and Scoring a Goal helped to keep us active.  A wonderful time was had by ‘Catching the Ducks’.  Do you remember the fairground game where we would hook ducks out of the water and win a prize?  Believe it or not we had a paddling Pool in the dining Room with everyone sitting around and hooking their ducks !  (unfortunately it was not the weather to go outside) The ducks were numbered and the competitive side came out as everyone aimed for the highest scoring duck !!!  number 12 was very popular ! It was great fun and something we’ll definitely be repeating.

I brought along some of my dancers who demonstrated Country Dancing and Maypole.  Thank you to those families who joined us and to my girls and families who gave up their time to entertain  at Valerie Manor.  Thank you also to Zoe and her staff who provided the most wonderful Cream Tea.  John videoed the event for our ladies and Gentleman to watch in the depths of Winter when they can sit and remember the lovely sunny day we were so lucky to have.

Bye for now, Happy August.
