by
Zoe
on Fri 28 Oct 2011 18:50 BST
I am
absolutely honoured to say that the team has nominated me for the Care Home Registered Manager Award in this year's South East
Regional Care Awards. I must admit that when I read
through the nomination I cried as it really choked me. You can see the nomination here. I was further delighted to hear this week that I
have been selected as a finalist and have been invited for an interview next week.
The award ceremony will be taking place on the 25th November in
Brighton.

Steyning Grammar School – Work Experience
by
Zoe
on Fri 21 Oct 2011 19:50 BST

We have for
a few years now welcomed students from Steyning Grammar School who wish to
undertake a week’s work experience here at Valerie Manor. This week Natasha
& Shayne joined us and have been not
only a great help – preparing the dining room, offering residents drinks and
conducting the Music Box quiz, but also a bit hit with residents and staff alike.
Thank you Natasha & Shayne for all your help, and we wish you every success
in the future.

Tickled Pink Productions
by
Zoe
on Thu 20 Oct 2011 19:49 BST
On Tuesday we were visited by Tickled Pink
Productions who put on a wonderful song and dance show which the residents
thoroughly enjoyed. Songs from Singing in the Rain, Easter Parade and High
Society were favourites and staff and residents sang along.

Table Tennis
by
Zoe
on Fri 14 Oct 2011 20:23 BST
We are
always looking for new entertainment ideas, and when we were contacted by Ian
Ford - Sports Development Officer at Horsham District Council, to see if we
would like his team to come along to get the residents playing table tennis, we jumped at
the chance.
Not only did
it prove to be very popular, but also great talking points, as some residents
were active club members in days gone by, and brought back many memories.
A huge thank-you to Ian and his team for coming along
and we are hoping to make this a regular event in the entertainment program.

Upper Beeding Primary School – Visit
by
Zoe
on Thu 13 Oct 2011 20:23 BST

We were very
pleased to accept a kind invitation to attend a Harvest Festival at Upper Beeding Primary
School on Tuesday. It certainly was very well attended and our residents who
went along had a fantastic time. One commented that the children all had smiles
on their faces throughout the performance, clearly enjoying being part of the event,
and the singing was some of the best they had heard.
A small group of children from the school also kindly visited us at Valerie Manor after the event bringing with them some harvest festival produce for the residents.
Another huge
thank-you to Viv and all at the School for their kind invitation.

Many thanks to the Clock House! We hope you enjoy the displays next time you visit.

New Staff
by
Zoe
on Sat 01 Oct 2011 08:28 BST
We are very pleased to introduce some new faces to Valerie Manor. Among these are our new Hospitality Assistants; this is a newly created role which entails ensuring all guests receive a warm welcome, as well as
being offered refreshments, arranging resident’s tea & coffee breaks, and
assisting the chef in the kitchen. Please welcome all our new staff below...
 | Sue Baldock Registered Nurse I have been a qualified nurse since 1969, and have worked in the nursing home environment through-out my entire career. I have been married for 42 years to my husband Mike with whom I have three children. I recently retired but found I missed things to much, and am really looking forward to becoming part of the Valerie Manor Care Team. In my spare time I enjoy playing croquet with Mike – which we started playing last year. I also love gardening and am an active member of a horticultural group, the WI and East Preston church family. | | Aimee King Care Assistant
I have been keen to work in a Caring role for some time now. Having started work at Valerie Manor as a Hospitality Assistant, I am now very pleased to be part of the Care Team. | | Michelle Chambers Housekeeper I live very close to Valerie Manor with my family and have recently joined the house-keeping team. I tend to work in the evenings and very much enjoy working in such a caring environment. | | Abigail Allan Hospitality Assistant I’m Abgail and I’m 20 years old. I am currently studying Child Care and Education at Chichester College (Monday - Friday). 2 out of the 5 days at college I go to placement at the local Primary School. I have lived in Upper Beeding my whole life and am very pleased to have a job at the local residential home. The new building is beautiful and I really enjoy spending time with the residents and working with the team. I love to socialise and spend time with my family, friends and chill on the sofa watching with my cat. | | Martyn Davis Hospitality Assistant Hi my name is Martyn, I’m 16 and I work as a hospitality assistant. My hobbies are football, fishing, tennis and golf. I play football for Upper Beeding under 18 team. I am enjoying my work so far here at Valerie Manor, which is my first job and everyone has been very nice. My job involves making drinks, setting the tables and doing the washing up. |
